Each year, between 40-50 overseas students attend the course, which is roughly 20% to 25% of the entire course composition. Learning through interaction amongst the students with varied experience from different countries constitutes a major component of the course objectives. Till today, 720 overseas students have attended the Staff College from countries like Bahrain, Brunei, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Myanmar, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sudan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Turkey, Thailand, UAE, United States of America, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
All overseas students are required to report to the College 15 days prior to the start of the course to attend a 2-week orientation programme. The aim of this pre-course training is to familiarize the overseas students with Bangladesh and prepare them for the following staff course. This includes presentations on Bangladesh, orientation with computer system, introduction to Bangla language, presentation on Bangladesh Armed Forces and para military forces, introduction to rules and conventions of service writing, briefing on analytical paper and visits to different places of interest around the capital.
To give the overseas officers a touch of culture and heritage of Bangladesh as well as to show them the beautiful tourist sites of the country, orientation tours are conducted by DSCSC. These one-day tours are generally conducted in and around Dhaka city for a duration of 5-6 hrs. Following are some of the sites for the tours:

Sylhet is a picturesque location in the north-eastern part of the country. The place attracts tourists for its hills, tea gardens and scenic beauty. All overseas students and their families participate in the visit. The tour is arranged by the college including arrangement of transportations, accommodations and sight seeing.
The tour is conducted to various attractive tourist spots of Chittagong and to the beautiful sea beach of Cox's Bazar.The beach in Cox's Bazar is an unbroken 125 km sandy sea beach, one of the world's longest. A beach drive to Himchori is an added attraction to the tour. Officers are welcome to take their families for the tour.
The visit to the largest mangrove forest of the world is a great experience. The overseas students and their families may travel by watercraft inside Sundarbans and enjoy the unique beauty of the nature.
