Defence Services Command & Staff College is a tri service organization and simultaneously runs staff courses for the Army, the Navy and the Air Force every year. The duration of the course is of 45 weeks, which normally starts in the month of April and ends in February on the following year. All training matters of the college are coordinated and approved by the Armed Forces Division under the Prime Minister's Office. However, major decisions are usually taken at the Governing Body (GB) meeting held yearly. The Chairperson of the GB is the Prime Minister & Defence Minister of Bangladesh Government. The three Vice Chairpersons are the services chief of Army, Navy and Air Force. Principal Staff Officer (PSO), Commandant National Defence College, Commandant Defence Services Command & Staff College, Finance Secretary, Defence Secretary, Establishments Secretary, Education Secretary, Vice Chancellor Dhaka University, Vice Chancellor Jahangirnagar University and Vice Chancellor National University are the members; Senior Directing Staff National Defence College, Colonel General Staff of Defence Services Command & Staff College are the member secretaries.
The mission of DSCSC is to develop the professional knowledge and understanding of selected mid-career officers of the three Services in order to prepare them for the assumption of increasing responsibilities both in staff and command appointments.
Staff college insignia is a circle in three colours divided equally representing; the Army (in red), the Navy (in deep blue) and the Air Force (in sky blue). In the centre is a flaming torch, which symbolizes knowledge.
A perimeter band in gold, suggesting the bond that exists amongst the three services, borders the circle. The name of the college is inscribed inside the perimeter band " সামরিক বাহিনী কমান্ড ও স্টাফ কলেজ ".
The motto of the college is written on a golden scroll underneath the circle. The motto reads " জ্ঞানই শক্তি " meaning knowledge is power.
